Fingerpainting
Here is Sebastian after he finished fingerpainting with his cereal and pears this morning. This was a suggestion from his developmental therapist, put some of his baby food on his tray and let him explore it with his hands. He is suppose to get some on his hands and then bring his hands to his mouth in preparation for self feeding. Today there was a lot of playing in the food, but none of it went in his mouth. He is doing well when I feed him with a spoon though. Foods Sebastian is enjoying these days: rice cereal, squash and pears. Mmmmmmm

Arizona Children's Museum
We visited the Children's Museum the other day and had a blast! Here is Tyler serving ice cream.
Sebastian also had a good time. Here he is all smiles!
One of Tyler's favorite things to do at the museum is make pizza. Here he is putting his pizza in the brick oven.
Sebastian even managed to get in some tummy time in the baby area!

Mmmm, squash
Well, after a week of just plain rice cereal, we finally moved on to butternut squash. I was a little worried because he wasn't eating the cereal very well, however, it is quite a different story now that there's a new flavor. The squash went over very well, as you can see from the picture. He was very eager to finish the whole bowl and was angry when the bowl was empty. Sebastian seems to be enjoying this new world of baby food!

First day of preschool
Getting ready to leave for his first day of school. He wasn't much in the picture taking mood, so this was the best I could do.
Tyler standing outside the door to his classroom. He was excited about his first day and I was excited that there were no tears this time. His main concern was what Sebastian was going to do while he was at school. He is getting to be such a big boy!!

Developmental Peds Appointment
Today was Sebastian's follow up visit with the developmental pediatrician. She basically goes through all those gross motor skills / age appropriate behaviors to see where Sebastian is performing. The doctor scored him at 5 1/2 months, which is right on for his corrected age. She was very pleased with the progress he has made and gave us some exercises to work on that will help promote crawling. He still has some stiff muscles in his legs that needs to be worked out in order to crawl and his back strength needs work, but overall she was very pleased. Growth wise he is still just below the 5th percentile for his corrected age, so he has more growing to do, but he's getting there. He should be around 14lbs at this point and he is weighing about 12lbs, 9oz and measuring about 24 inches long (which is double his length at birth!) I guess we know what Sebastian and I will be doing the next few weeks as Tyler heads off to preschool.
On a side note, we started the rice cereal on Saturday and Sebastian slept for 12 hours that night!! I woke up at 6am in a panic because he hadn't gotten up to eat. I went in to check on him and he was still sleeping peacefully. He did that again on Sunday night. I got my first full night sleep in quite some time. Yeah for rice cereal!!!

Rice cereal and more.....
Today was Sebastian's follow up visit with the GI doctor. It was a great visit and the doctor was very pleased with Sebastian's progress during the past six weeks. His weight is up to 12 lbs, 8 oz, which puts him in the 5th % for weight!! He is finally on the growth charts. He told us to go ahead with introducing solids, but we'll have to go a little slower than most before moving on to a new food. So, on the menu for tonight..... rice cereal!!! As you can see, he was quite excited to embark on this new adventure.
The first bite was a surprising. He wasn't quite sure what to do with it.
But of course, he wanted to try and help as much as possible.
He was very eager to put the spoon in his mouth, he was just a little unsure of the taste once it go to his mouth. I'll have to say that not that much cereal actually went in his mouth, but he sure had fun sitting at the table and eating like a big boy.
This is his "what the heck did I just eat" face.
The doctor also decided to post pone his upper GI/swallow study test for now. We are going to see how he adjusts to the solids and go from there. His eating is going so much better on the Prevacid and I'm very pleased that he is keeping much more of it in that he use to. We'll keep you updated on how this new adventure is going.

8 Months Old!
Sebastian turned 8 months old at the end of July. It's hard to believe, but he is growing so fast and doing so well. He is now 12lbs, 5 oz and mastered rolling quite well. He is also working on sitting and pulling his knees up when he's on his tummy in preparation to crawl. He is also enjoying the exersaucer and of course, putting everything and anything in his mouth.
And just for fun, here is Tyler at 8 months......

One is fine
Tonight Tyler and I made some chocolate cookies after dinner. Of course we had to taste them to make sure they were yummy enough to share. Then a little while later, when it was time to clean up toys, I told Tyler he could have another cookie when he was all done cleaning up his legos (which were ALL OVER the floor). He calmly turned around and replied, "One cookie is enough" and went right on playing. No bribery for this kid!! His quick answers just crack me up sometimes.
